The political landscape within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is once again heating up as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has openly cautioned Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, against moves to bring former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, back into the PDP fold.
Wike issued the warning on Monday during a media interaction in Abuja. His comments came in response to remarks made by Governor Bala Mohammed—who also doubles as Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum—during an interview on Channels Television.
Governor Mohammed had hinted that the PDP is considering Peter Obi and former President Goodluck Jonathan as possible candidates for the party’s 2027 presidential ticket.
But Wike strongly opposed this idea, insisting that such a move could spell doom for the PDP. According to him, reinstating Obi into the party and handing him the presidential ticket would weaken, rather than strengthen, the PDP.
In his words:
“Bringing Obi to where? You want to kill the party? Obi that was abusing the PDP, saying it is rotten—so now the party is suddenly good enough for him? Ambition can make people even go to Satan’s house.”
The development highlights the growing internal debates within the PDP as the opposition party tries to position itself strategically ahead of the 2027 general elections.
