Fresh reports confirm that Nigerian star Ademola Lookman could be heading back to the Premier League. This follows his excellent performance at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Lookman is now strongly linked with a return to England in the January 2026 transfer window. The club trying to sign him is West Ham United.
West Ham are in a serious fight to avoid relegation. They are currently 18th in the table, five points from safety. Their manager, Nuno Espírito Santo, believes Lookman is the special player needed to improve their struggling attack.
Lookman has been called “one of the best in the world” after his great season with Atalanta. He was even nominated for the Ballon d’Or. He is now Nuno’s top target for January.
According to reports, West Ham have started talks with Lookman’s representatives about a move.
The timing is dramatic. Lookman is returning from AFCON 2025 with a bronze medal. He scored the winning penalty for Nigeria against Egypt in the third-place match on Saturday.
West Ham’s problem is clear. They have scored only 24 goals in 22 games this season. They have also conceded the most goals in the league (44). Manager Nuno knows he needs a player who can change games immediately.
Lookman could be that player. His speed, skill, and goal-scoring ability are seen as the “X-factor” West Ham desperately need to save their Premier League status.
