A major fire outbreak occurred on Monday afternoon at an Airtel network mast site in the Osin-Okete area of Ilorin West Local Government, Kwara State.
According to a statement released by the Kwara State Fire Service spokesman, Hassan Adekunle, the fire started around 1:27 pm. Firefighters were immediately dispatched to the scene, where they found the mast already engulfed in flames.
Reports confirmed that a generator at the site was affected by the blaze. However, the quick and well-coordinated response of the fire crew helped prevent the fire from spreading further, saving both the mast structure and nearby equipment.
By 2:04 pm, the situation had been brought under control, and the flames fully extinguished.
The Director of the Kwara State Fire Service, Prince Falade John Olumuyiwa, commended his team for their timely intervention. He also urged members of the public, as well as facility managers, to adopt strict electrical and fuel safety measures. He stressed the importance of reporting fire incidents promptly to reduce risks and damages.
Meanwhile, the cause of the fire is still under investigation, with preliminary findings expected to be released soon.
