Former Arsenal star and Sky Sports pundit, Paul Merson, has revised his prediction for the Premier League champions this season.
At the start of the campaign, Merson strongly backed Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal to clinch their first league title in 22 years. However, after recent results, the ex-Gunner believes Liverpool now look like the side to beat.
Speaking on Sky Sports, Merson pointed to Liverpool’s strong victories over both Arsenal and Newcastle United as a major turning point.
“Yeah, I would’ve thought so after yesterday as well,” Merson explained. “I always weigh it up after watching key games. I thought advantage Arsenal when they won at Old Trafford, but Liverpool went on to beat both Newcastle and Arsenal.”
The 57-year-old added that the Reds haven’t even reached top form yet, which makes them even more dangerous in the title race.
“For me, they’ve not even got out of second gear yet. They haven’t played particularly well, and they’re still beating big teams.”
With Arne Slot guiding Liverpool to consistent results early in the season, Merson now tips the Merseyside club to push all the way and reclaim the Premier League crown.
