A heartbreaking accident occurred on Wednesday afternoon in Abuja, claiming the lives of a man, his wife, and their young son.

According to eyewitnesses, the family was driving a Toyota Highlander SUV after purchasing a new refrigerator when they were pursued by three touts, commonly known as Agberos, around the Berger axis.

    How the Tragedy Happened

Reports indicate that the touts allegedly forced their way into the moving SUV and attempted to seize control of the steering wheel from the driver. In the struggle, the vehicle veered off course, crashed into a bridge pillar, and plunged into a drainage channel.

Sadly, the man, his wife, and their child died instantly in the collision.

    Collateral Damage & Public Reaction

The impact also destroyed a nearby green Abuja taxi that was parked at the scene. Outraged witnesses, angered by the senseless loss of lives, turned on the touts. One of them was lynched immediately by the mob.

    Police Response

Officers from the Mabushi Police Division quickly arrived at the scene and rescued the remaining two suspects, who were severely injured. They were rushed to the National Hospital, Abuja, while the lynched tout’s body was evacuated by security operatives.

    A Growing Concern

This tragic event underscores the ongoing menace of touts and road safety challenges in major Nigerian cities. Many residents have raised concerns over the increasing harassment by these groups, calling for urgent intervention by authorities to prevent similar incidents in the future.
