Oyo Town, Oyo State — Residents of Oyo Town were thrown into panic in the early hours of Thursday after a fire broke out in a residential building at Olugbile House, Iyalamu area.

The incident, which occurred around 5:00 am, reportedly destroyed household items and properties worth millions of naira. Fortunately, no life was lost in the outbreak.

According to the Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Service, Hon. Maroof Akinwande, the agency received a distress call and immediately deployed firefighters to the scene. On arrival, the team found two out of eight rooms in the ancient residential building engulfed in flames. They swiftly contained the fire, preventing it from spreading further.

“The fire incident was caused by a lighted cigarette stub left unattended by one of the occupants, which ignited nearby combustible materials,” Akinwande explained.

He further advised residents of Oyo State to:

    • Always report fire incidents on time.

    • Provide accurate addresses to ensure a quick response.

    • Keep fire extinguishers in every household to help reduce risks.

The Oyo State Fire Service also released emergency lines for residents to call in case of any fire incident:
    08067439223, 08054353501, or 615.

While no casualties were recorded, this incident serves as a strong reminder of the importance of fire safety awareness, especially in residential areas.

Jamflash Reminder: Never leave cigarettes, candles, or other fire-hazard materials unattended. Quick action and safety awareness can save lives and property.
