In a groundbreaking achievement for Nigeria’s aviation industry, the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has officially granted the first-ever Aerodrome Operational Permit (AOP) to Gateway International Airport, located in Ilisan-Iperu, Ogun State.

This approval makes the airport the first in the country to meet NCAA’s new and enhanced regulatory standards, positioning it as a model for aviation infrastructure nationwide.

    Cutting-Edge Technology for Safer Flights

To complement this milestone, the Instrument Landing System/Distance Measuring Equipment (ILS/DME) installed on Runway 23 at the airport has been declared “totally satisfactory in all respects” after a successful inspection by the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) on September 4, 2025.

With this certification, the runway is now cleared for unrestricted use, boosting confidence in flight safety and operational efficiency.

Ogun State’s Vision for Global Connectivity

Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun, CON, praised the development as proof of his administration’s vision to transform Ogun into a hub for commerce, investment, and international connectivity.

    He emphasized:

“This achievement is not just for Ogun State but for Nigeria as a whole. The Gateway International Airport is a symbol of progress and a new benchmark for aviation infrastructure.”

The approval of Gateway International Airport carries huge benefits:

    • Enhanced aviation safety and reliability

    • Direct international access for Nigerian farmers and exporters

    • Job creation for young people in Ogun State and beyond

    • Reduced congestion at the crowded Lagos airports

With this success, Ogun State has set a new benchmark in aviation development, ensuring it plays a central role in boosting Nigeria’s global competitiveness.

Jamflash will continue to follow updates from Ogun State and Nigeria’s aviation sector as they unfold.
