Former Nigerian President, Goodluck Jonathan, has spoken candidly about the deep betrayals he experienced while seeking re-election in 2015.
Jonathan made the revelation in Benin City, Edo State, during the 70th birthday celebration of Chief Mike Aiyegbeni Oghiadomhe, a trusted ally and longtime political associate.
“Politics in the Nigerian standard is about betrayals,” Jonathan said.
“I have witnessed a lot of betrayal during the 2015 election. You will find it difficult to see somebody who says the same thing in the morning, in the afternoon and in the evening.”
Jonathan praised Oghiadomhe as one of the few loyal friends who stood firmly by him despite political turbulence. Oghiadomhe notably served as Chief of Staff to the President from 2010 to 2014.
This statement comes amidst speculation about Jonathan’s possible return to politics in the 2027 general election, potentially under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). While rumors continue to swirl, the former president has not made an official declaration regarding his political future.
Summary:
Jonathan’s reflection sheds light on the harsh realities of Nigerian politics, where betrayal and shifting loyalty are often part of the game. His comments also rekindle discussions about whether he might make a dramatic comeback in 2027.
