In the early hours of Thursday, tragedy struck the Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State as a respected community youth leader was killed in a deadly ambush.
According to security sources, the attack occurred along the Horop–Laban–Nawala feeder road — a border route that connects Plateau and Nasarawa states. A joint patrol team made up of soldiers, vigilantes, and local hunters reportedly came under heavy gunfire from suspected armed militias.
Caught in the crossfire was Mr. Dabit Clement Joseph, widely known in his community as Chepti. At just 47 years old, he was serving as the Youth President of Horop District, a role in which he was highly regarded for his leadership and dedication to community development. Sadly, he lost his life instantly during the ambush.
His remains have been transferred to the morgue at Luna Hospital, Bokkos, where community members have since gathered to mourn the loss of their leader.
The Plateau State Police Command has confirmed the incident, stating that investigations are underway. Security operatives have intensified efforts to track down the perpetrators responsible for the attack.
This tragic event once again highlights the rising concerns over insecurity in Plateau State and the urgent need for sustainable peace and community protection measures.
