The political climate in Anambra State ahead of the 2025 governorship election is heating up as Young Progressives Party (YPP) candidate, Mr. Paul Chukwuma, strongly responded to recent comments made by Governor Chukwuma Soludo.
During a visit to Umueri community over the weekend, Governor Soludo downplayed Chukwuma’s candidacy, suggesting that the YPP aspirant was more interested in gaining popularity than seriously contesting. In a playful remark, Soludo hinted that Chukwuma’s decision to run for office came after admiring the governor’s seat during one of his visits.
However, Chukwuma did not take the comments lightly. In his reply, he advised Soludo to focus on governance rather than trading jibes.
“If Governor Soludo enjoys gossip or insults, he should join market women who sell pepper and ogiri, instead of turning serious politics into banter,” Chukwuma stated.
The YPP candidate stressed that his campaign is centered on addressing Anambra’s pressing issues, particularly the lack of steady electricity supply.
“We are in Anambra and still struggling with poor electricity. Power is now on the concurrent list, which means both state and federal governments can legislate on it. What is stopping Soludo from providing stable power?” he asked.
Chukwuma revealed that he has studied successful power projects like Prof. Bart Nnaji’s Geometric Power in Aba and explored similar models abroad, including in China. He promised that within his first three months in office, Anambra residents would enjoy steady electricity under his leadership.
As the campaign season unfolds, the exchange between Soludo and Chukwuma sets the stage for what may become one of the most heated governorship races in Anambra’s history.
