A tragic incident has struck Kirikasamma Local Government Area of Jigawa State, where one person has been confirmed dead and seven others injured following the collapse of a residential building in Kanak village.
The council chairman, Muhammad Maji Wakili Marma, confirmed the development, stating that the unfortunate event occurred after two nights of heavy rainfall battered the area.
According to him, five of the injured victims are currently receiving treatment in the hospital, while two others have been discharged after receiving medical attention.
Mr. Marma expressed deep concern over the structural vulnerability of many houses in the community, warning that more buildings could collapse if urgent intervention is not carried out.
He called on both the government and humanitarian agencies to come to the aid of the victims and to take proactive measures that would protect local communities from flooding and other climate-related disasters.
This incident adds to the growing concerns about the impact of climate change on rural settlements in Nigeria, where weak infrastructure often leaves residents vulnerable to disasters.
