Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar on Monday visited Abubakar Malami, former Attorney-General of the Federation, after the latter’s convoy was violently attacked in Birnin Kebbi.

According to eyewitness accounts, the attack happened close to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) secretariat, where several vehicles were vandalized and multiple supporters sustained injuries. Reports indicate that nearly 10 vehicles were damaged in the confrontation.

Malami, in his reaction, described the incident as politically motivated, accusing rival thugs of targeting his convoy with stones and weapons. He stressed that such actions undermine peace and security ahead of the forthcoming elections.

In response, Atiku strongly condemned the violence, warning that political clashes are becoming a dangerous trend across Nigeria.

“This trend is dangerous. Security agencies and political leaders must take urgent steps to stop it,” Atiku cautioned.

The incident has once again raised concerns about political thuggery and insecurity during election campaigns, with calls on security operatives to intensify efforts to ensure safety and fairness in the political space.
