In the build-up to the 2027 general elections, Nigeria’s political scene may be heating up once again.

On Thursday, former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi paid a visit to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan in Abuja. Obi revealed the details of their engagement in a post on his verified X (formerly Twitter) account.

The former Anambra State governor described Jonathan as an “elder brother, statesman, and leader,” while noting that their meeting behind closed doors was both “fruitful” and centered on national issues.

The development has drawn attention within political circles, with many analysts suggesting that the meeting could signal possible alignments ahead of the 2027 elections—especially given ongoing speculations linking both Jonathan and Obi to potential moves within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

    In his post, Obi wrote:

“Today in Abuja, I met with my very dear elder brother, statesman, and leader, former President Goodluck Jonathan @GEJonathan. We had a fruitful closed-door meeting and discussed the state of our dear nation.”

While neither Obi nor Jonathan has openly confirmed any political collaboration, their meeting has certainly added a new layer of intrigue to Nigeria’s evolving political narrative.
