Tragedy struck on Friday, September 27, when a bomb explosion suspected to have been planted by Boko Haram terrorists killed two members of a local vigilante group in Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe State.

According to security analyst Zagazola Makama, who shared the report on his X (formerly Twitter) page, the incident occurred around 2:30 p.m. along the Damaturu–Buni Yadi Road, near Madiya village.

The powerful blast claimed the lives of 35-year-old Kinnafi Modu and 27-year-old Mamman Kasaisa, both vigilante members who were at the forefront of protecting their community. Sadly, two other vigilantes sustained serious injuries and were immediately taken to the General Hospital in Damaturu for urgent medical attention.

In response, a police team led by the Divisional Police Officer of Gujba and the Officer-in-Charge of the State Intelligence Bureau swiftly arrived at the scene. They assisted in evacuating the victims, cleared the area, and worked to restore calm.

Authorities have since reinforced security measures along the Damaturu–Buni Yadi Road, deploying tactical teams to prevent further attacks and reassure travelers of their safety.

This heartbreaking incident highlights the continued threat of insurgency in Nigeria’s Northeast and the sacrifices of local vigilantes who put their lives on the line to protect their communities.
