The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a security guard, Amos Kini, over the abduction of a two-year-old boy in the Elemoro area of Lagos State.

According to the police report, the incident happened late at night on September 21, 2025, when the child’s mother reported to the Elemoro Police Division that her security guard had disappeared with her son and her mobile phone. Shockingly, the suspect later used the stolen phone to contact the child’s father, demanding a ₦5 million ransom for the boy’s release.

Following the report, officers from the Elemoro Division swiftly began investigations. They interrogated Aruna Dauda, the guarantor who had stood surety for the suspect during his employment. Meanwhile, a tactical team intensified surveillance to trace the suspect’s movements.

Feeling the pressure, Kini released the child unharmed. However, the police continued their hunt for him. On September 23, at around 2:00 p.m., operatives of the Tactical Squad (Hyena), acting on intelligence, tracked him to his hideout in Elemoro and arrested him.

The Lagos Police spokesperson confirmed that Kini has confessed to the crime and will face prosecution once investigations are finalized.

Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, condemned the act, describing it as a “grievous crime against an innocent child.” He further assured residents that the police remain committed to tackling violent crimes and ensuring the safety of Lagosians.
