Each year, cyclists depart Memphis on a long, emotionally driven ride toward Rosemary Beach, Florida, covering over 500 miles. Their mission is more than a physical challenge — it’s a moving tribute and fundraiser for the West Cancer Foundation.
One of the founders, Chuck Bolton, has personal stakes in this ride. He’s lost loved ones to cancer, and his wife is a survivor. He recalls how the ride began after friends encouraged him to channel grief into action — so he “got on his bike and rode to Rosemary,” and others joined. Home – WCBI TV | Telling Your Story
What started as nine cyclists has grown into a core group of 72 riders today, bonded by their collective story, faith, and commitment.
On Sunday, Vernon was the midday stop. The cyclists were welcomed by local officials and residents, and Vernon’s City Clerk Don Dollar expressed gratitude for their mission:
“Every family has cancer somewhere, somehow.”
The ride also includes support behind the scenes — a team preparing meals, providing mechanical assistance, and offering encouragement at each stop.
More Than a Ride: Impact & Faith
-
Over the years, the Ride 2 Rosemary campaign has helped raise more than $2 million for the West Cancer Foundation.
-
Riders train year-round, and they gather monthly for spiritual encouragement, combining strength of body with strength of soul.
-
Hog Wild: A Movable Feast Catering, which travels with the team, has been part of the ride since its early days — handling the nourishment side of the journey.
This is more than a fundraising trek. It’s a therapeutic pilgrimage. For the cyclists:
-
It honors those who’ve succumbed to cancer.
-
It uplifts survivors.
-
It forges community through a shared cause.
-
It turns wheels into voice — turning miles into awareness.
And for the towns along the route, like Vernon:
-
It’s an opportunity to show compassion.
-
It’s a moment to unite.
-
It’s a visual reminder that no one faces cancer alone.
Closing Thoughts
When you see a line of cyclists rolling through your town, know there’s often a deeper story behind each rider. The Ride 2 Rosemary isn’t just about the destination — it’s about the hearts touched along the way. In Vernon, that story paused for lunch, conversation, and hope. Then moved onward, toward Florida, and onward still, toward a future where cancer’s hold is diminished by awareness, action, and solidarity.
