Chelsea have suffered yet another injury setback as midfielder Romeo Lavia looks set to spend a long period out of action. The young Belgian star lasted barely six minutes in the Blues’ dramatic 2-2 Champions League draw against Qarabag on Wednesday night before being forced off.
Lavia, who joined Chelsea from Southampton, has already endured a frustrating time at Stamford Bridge with repeated fitness problems. Unfortunately, this latest injury appears to be another major hurdle for the 20-year-old.
Speaking after the match in Baku, Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca expressed deep disappointment over the situation.
“We feel a shame for Romeo Lavia. He’s not able to be fit for a long, long period,” Maresca said.
“We will see now. It’s too early to understand what kind of injury. I think it’s his quad.”
While Chelsea await further medical assessments, early signs suggest Lavia could be sidelined for an extended period, adding to the growing list of fitness concerns Maresca has been dealing with this season.
What This Means for Chelsea
Lavia was brought in to add depth and control to Chelsea’s midfield, but recurring injuries have prevented him from making a consistent impact. His absence could force Maresca to rely more heavily on alternatives like Moisés Caicedo, Enzo Fernández, and Lesley Ugochukwu in upcoming fixtures.
Chelsea fans will be hoping for positive news in the coming days, but for now, the outlook remains uncertain.
