Ikot Ekpene, Akwa Ibom State – Senate President Godswill Akpabio has appealed to Nigerians to be patient with the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, assuring that the reforms currently being implemented will soon lead to economic growth and prosperity.
Akpabio made this statement while addressing dignitaries at the Second Plenary Meeting of the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria, held in Akwa Ibom. He emphasized that despite the present challenges, citizens should not lose hope, but rather believe in a brighter and united future.
Quoting from his remarks, Akpabio said:
“A nation is like a mighty cathedral—it is not raised overnight, but stone by stone, prayer by prayer, hand by hand. Let us renew our hope in the Nigerian enterprise and believe that our children can inherit a future brighter than our present.”
The Senate President further encouraged unity between faith and governance, stressing that true transformation requires collaboration across the Church, government, and civil society.
Representing President Tinubu at the event, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, assured Nigerians that the administration remains committed to strengthening democratic institutions, stabilizing the economy, and creating opportunities for all.
“We have taken bold steps to stabilize the economy, attract investment, and implement reforms that will bring enduring benefits to our country,” Akume said.
He also urged the Church to continue partnering with government efforts, noting that social investment programmes would ensure no Nigerian is left behind.
The Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno, highlighted the Catholic Church’s role in promoting justice, democracy, and social welfare globally. He noted that his administration is investing heavily in poverty alleviation and interventions targeting the vulnerable.
The plenary meeting was attended by top dignitaries, including the Apostolic Nuncio and Papal Representative, Most Rev. Michael Francis Crotty, Catholic Bishops from across Nigeria, members of the National Assembly, and several political leaders.
