Brazilian winger Antony has shed light on his decision to join Real Betis permanently, despite receiving a last-minute offer from German giants Bayern Munich.

The 25-year-old officially signed for Betis on transfer deadline day in a £21.65 million deal from Manchester United, after spending the second half of last season on loan with the Spanish side.

Antony’s time at Old Trafford was marked by limited opportunities under new manager Ruben Amorim, which ultimately paved the way for his departure. His successful loan spell in La Liga convinced Betis to make the move permanent.

During his unveiling as a Real Betis player on Tuesday, Antony revealed that Bayern Munich made a late approach, but he chose to honor his prior agreement with the Spanish club.

“I spoke with Bayern,” Antony told Cadena COPE. “I don’t know if the salary offer was €7 million, but I had already given my word to Betis. The deal was 95% closed, and I wanted to respect that. I feel calm about the decision because I’m very happy here. More than five teams contacted me, but Betis felt right.”

By rejecting Bayern, Antony emphasized loyalty and trust over financial incentives, underlining his commitment to Real Betis’ project. With the permanent deal secured, the Brazilian is now set to play a key role in the club’s ambitions for the coming season.
