Benue Links Leads the Fight Against Child Trafficking: 19 Minors Rescued in Two Weeks

In a commendable move, Benue Links, the state-owned transport company, has reported the rescue of 19 minors from human traffickers within the past two weeks.

Speaking in Makurdi over the weekend, the company’s General Manager, Comrade Alexander Fanafa, revealed how the firm has become a strong partner in the fight against human trafficking by working closely with the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP).

    How the Children Were Rescued

Fanafa explained that the company’s vigilance has been key in intercepting traffickers.

    • Last week alone, five children were intercepted while being taken to Jos, Plateau State.

    • In the previous week, 11 minors were rescued from Lagos and safely brought back to Makurdi before being handed over to NAPTIP.

    • Additional recoveries included two children rescued just days earlier and another girl who was reunited with her family in Zaki-Biam after being transported free of charge from Lagos.

“We transported the girl from Lagos to Makurdi and from Makurdi to Zaki-Biam, completely free of charge. Our Zaki-Biam manager personally handed her over to her family,” Fanafa said.

    Commitment to Ending Child Trafficking

Highlighting the growing threat of human trafficking across Nigeria, Fanafa stressed that Benue Links is one of the few transport companies actively helping to fight this menace.

    He noted:

    • The company has safety, security, traffic, and monitoring officers trained by NAPTIP.

    • Staff remain vigilant, carefully monitoring passengers and identifying suspicious activities.

    • Children trafficked through other companies are often recovered and returned to their families by Benue Links, free of charge.

    Why This Matters

Human trafficking remains a widespread problem in Nigeria, and transport operators are often unknowingly used by traffickers. By stepping up its monitoring system and collaborating with NAPTIP, Benue Links is setting an example for other companies nationwide.

Operating in 35 states across Nigeria, the company has pledged to continue its active role in ensuring a trafficking-free Benue State and a safer Nigeria overall.

    Jamflash Takeaway:
Benue Links’ proactive stance proves that businesses can go beyond profit-making and contribute to safeguarding society. Their actions are not only saving children but also inspiring a new model of corporate responsibility in Nigeria’s transport sector.
