Dele Momodu Accuses Tinubu of Running Nigeria Like a Civilian Dictatorship

Veteran journalist and publisher, Dele Momodu, has stirred national debate after declaring that President Bola Tinubu’s style of governance resembles a “civilian dictatorship.”

The outspoken media mogul made this statement on Wednesday evening through a post on his official X (formerly Twitter) account.

According to Momodu, Nigerian leaders — not just opposition figures — must be open to constructive criticism if the country truly hopes to progress.

“I stand gidigba by my opinion that what we have now is civilian dictatorship. Constructive criticism is not meant only for political opponents but for all leaders,” he wrote.

Momodu emphasized that while he chooses to remain respectful in his approach, he cannot ignore the sudden shift in loyalty by some Nigerians who once openly criticized Tinubu but now praise him blindly.

“I still shudder at the sheer depravity of how some people can switch overnight and think Tinubu has forgotten the level they descended, or that we all suffer from collective amnesia,” he added.

He concluded by stressing that his loyalty remains to Nigeria first, above all personal or political considerations.

This bold statement has sparked conversations across social media, with Nigerians divided on whether President Tinubu’s administration is strengthening democracy or gradually centralizing power in a way that threatens it.
