The Kaduna State Police Command has officially invited former governor Mallam Nasir El-Rufai and six senior members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for questioning over allegations of criminal conspiracy, incitement, mischief, and causing grievous harm.
According to a letter dated September 4, 2025, and signed by Deputy Commissioner of Police, Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Uzainu Abdullahi, the ADC State Chairman was directed to present El-Rufai and other party leaders at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) on September 8, 2025.
Who Are the Invited Party Leaders?
The police invitation listed the following individuals alongside El-Rufai:
-
Bashir Sa’idu
-
Jafaru Sani
-
Ubaidullah Mohammed (aka “30”)
-
Nasiru Maikano
-
Aminu Abita
-
Ahmed Rufa’i Hussaini (aka “Mikiya”)
The police explained that the invitation is part of ongoing investigations to clarify complaints lodged against the party leaders. Although the details of the complaints remain unclear, the command emphasized the move was necessary to maintain public peace and order in Kaduna State.
ADC Office Sealed Before Northwest Leaders’ Visit
In a related development, security operatives sealed the ADC office on Ali Akilu Road, Kaduna, just hours before the North-West leadership of the party was scheduled to visit.
The visit was intended as a commiseration mission following a brutal attack on ADC members by suspected political thugs the previous week. Eyewitnesses confirmed that multiple police patrol vans surrounded the office to block access, raising concerns of political intimidation.
Recent Political Violence in Kaduna
Last week, opposition members of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and ADC, under the leadership of El-Rufai, were attacked during a coalition transition meeting at the NUT Endwell Conference Hall in Magadishu Layout.
Reports alleged that the thugs were hired by the state government. Victims sustained serious injuries, vehicles—including El-Rufai’s—were vandalized, and windows of the conference venue were destroyed. Shockingly, the attack occurred despite the presence of armed policemen already deployed to monitor the gathering.
Sources revealed that the state government had allegedly pressured event centers to cancel earlier bookings made by the opposition, highlighting rising political tension between El-Rufai and Governor Uba Sani, his former ally turned rival.
Legal Pushback Against Police Restrictions
In reaction to these developments, Yusuf Shehu Bello, an ADC chieftain in Kaduna, has filed a suit against the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, and the Kaduna State Commissioner of Police at the Federal High Court.
Through his counsel, Barrister Farouk Dikko, Bello is seeking an injunction to prevent police authorities from unlawfully suspending or disrupting opposition political gatherings in public places and hotels across the state.
