Former Scotland international and football pundit Ally McCoist has changed his stance on who will win this season’s Premier League EPL title.
At the beginning of the campaign, McCoist confidently tipped Liverpool to retain the trophy after an impressive transfer window under new manager Arne Slot.
However, following Liverpool’s narrow 1-0 victory over Arsenal at Anfield, McCoist admitted his perspective had shifted in Arsenal’s favour.
“At the start of the season, I really fancied Liverpool,” McCoist told reporters. “I thought their summer signings were excellent and gave them the depth they needed.”
But after watching Dominik Szoboszlai’s winning strike against Arsenal, the pundit suggested that the defeat highlighted Arsenal’s resilience and potential to challenge Liverpool at the very top.
“Ironically, after that game, I now have a sneaky feeling for Arsenal,” McCoist continued. “Their defence looks strong, I like the centre-back pairing, Mosquera looks promising, and David Raya is a quality goalkeeper.”
As things stand, Liverpool sit at the top of the Premier League table with 15 points, just two clear of Arsenal, who remain hot on their heels heading into the weekend fixtures.
With both teams showing early-season strength, McCoist’s change of heart adds more excitement to what promises to be one of the most competitive title races in recent years.
