Super Eagles head coach, Eric Chelle, has praised his players highly after Nigeria won the bronze medal at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) on Saturday.
Nigeria beat Egypt in the third-place playoff match. The game ended 0-0 after 90 minutes. Nigeria then won 4-2 in a penalty shootout.
Goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali was the hero. He saved penalties from Egypt’s star players, Mohamed Salah and Omar Marmoush.
After the match, Coach Eric Chelle spoke about his team. He said the players gave everything for him and have won his respect for life.
Chelle, who is from Mali, also talked about his own journey with the team.
“You know it’s not easy when a French guy comes and I was so demanding with them,” Chelle said in his post-match interview.
He added, “I’m very proud of them, they gave everything for me, and for sure they win my respect for life.”
This win means Nigeria ends the 2024 AFCON tournament in third place. The players showed strong spirit and teamwork to finish on a high note.
