Former Manchester United legend and Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville believes the race for the 2024/25 Premier League title is already down to just two clubs – Arsenal and Liverpool.
Speaking after Arsenal’s hard-fought 2-1 win over Newcastle United, Neville praised the depth and quality of Mikel Arteta’s squad, highlighting that they now sit just two points behind league leaders Liverpool.
Arsenal had to fight back after falling behind to a Nick Woltemade strike, but goals from Mikel Merino and Gabriel Magalhães secured all three points for the Gunners at St James’ Park.
Neville didn’t hold back in his analysis, claiming Arsenal now boast arguably the best squad in the league:
“Mikel Arteta has got a brilliant squad. I think he’s got the best squad in the league, and maybe the best team in the league. But I say that quietly because Liverpool are excellent.
There are only two teams who can win this league – Liverpool and Arsenal. I don’t think anyone else can.”
With Manchester City struggling to keep up this season, Neville’s comments spark an interesting debate about whether Pep Guardiola’s men are finally out of the title equation. For now, the battle lines seem clearly drawn between Liverpool and Arsenal, making this one of the most exciting title races in recent years.
