The leadership of the Butura Youth Movement, BYM, in Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State has vowed to get justice for a female vigilante leader who was killed on Wednesday by gunmen suspected to be Fulani militias.

The lady who name was given as Tawa, was reportedly killed alongside three others when the bandits ambushed and opened fire on them at Butura Kampani village in the council.

Before her death, Tawa was said to be a fearless heroine who had volunteered to assist government security forces in protecting civilians involved in tin mining and was attacked and killed along with another woman while returning from a mining site.

While vowing that Tawa’s death will not be in vain, the BYM, in a statement on Saturday, said it will do everything within its powers to get justice and compensation for her and her family.

“We are still pained by the senseless killing of our sister whose only crime was to volunteer to provide security for her people,” the statement reads.

“Though she was buried yesterday (Friday) amidst tears, we as a group will do everything within our powers to make sure we get justice for our beloved sister.

“She was killed in the most unfortunate circumstances and in the line of duty. So we want both the state and local government to provide adequate compensation for her family including full scholarship for her young children,” the BYM said in the statement shared with DAILY POST.
