Celebrity chef Hilda Baci has officially embarked on a bold journey to set a new Guinness World Record by preparing the world’s largest pot of jollof rice, using an astonishing 250 bags of rice.
The record-breaking attempt kicked off at Eko Hotel, Lagos, where thousands of fans and supporters gathered to witness the historic cooking challenge. This comes after Hilda’s global recognition in 2023 when she smashed the record for the longest cooking marathon, placing Nigerian cuisine in the global spotlight.
Before the cooking began, Hilda shared a heartfelt moment with her mother, both bowing in prayer for strength, endurance, and divine protection. The emotional scene touched many spectators, who acknowledged her mother as a strong pillar of support in her culinary journey.
Adding to the excitement, Hilda shared a light-hearted post:
“Yes, I can officially confirm this pot is squeaky clean! I rolled up my sleeves and washed it myself. In just a few hours, this same pot will carry thousands of servings of Nigerian Jollof history in the making.”
The event was initially scheduled for Muri Okunola Park, but due to overwhelming interest—with more than 20,000 people registering to attend—it was relocated to Eko Hotel to accommodate the massive turnout.
This ambitious attempt is not only about breaking a world record but also about celebrating the rich Nigerian food culture, with jollof rice standing as one of the most iconic dishes across Africa.
