Ikorodu City were left frustrated on Sunday after being held to a 1-1 draw by eight-time NPFL champions, Enyimba, in a matchday six encounter at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, Lagos.
The game started on a tense note as Ikorodu City’s Joel Ezra mistakenly put the ball into his own net in the 12th minute, gifting Enyimba the lead. However, the Oga Boys quickly bounced back, with Joseph Arumala finding the equalizer just five minutes later to restore hope for the Lagos-based side.
Despite dominating much of the game and creating clear goal-scoring opportunities, Ikorodu City were unable to find the decisive winner. Technical adviser Bright Ozebagbe expressed disappointment at his team’s wastefulness in front of goal.
“Dropping points at home is not a good thing. It was against Enyimba—they had their chance and took it, which made things difficult for us,” Ozebagbe told the club’s media team.
“We needed to be more composed in the final third. We created chances, but I think anxiety set in, and that affected our finishing.”
The draw means Ikorodu City remain in ninth position on the NPFL table as they continue to search for consistency in their debut topflight season.
The Oga Boys will now shift focus to their upcoming away clash against Bayelsa United at the Samson Siasia Stadium, Yenagoa, this weekend.
