In a heartbreaking development, the Yobe State Government on Wednesday carried out a mass burial for 84 victims of a violent attack on Mafa community, located in Tarmuwa Local Government Area.

According to the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, Dungus Abdulkarim, the assault was carried out by approximately 150 heavily armed Boko Haram fighters, who stormed the village on over 50 motorcycles, wielding rifles and rocket-propelled grenades.

“The assault caused massive damage, burning shops and homes and driving nearly all the villagers to flee to Babangida,” Abdulkarim confirmed.

The attack not only claimed dozens of lives but also left the once-thriving community in ruins. Shops, homes, and essential structures were set ablaze, leaving residents devastated.

Despite the tragedy, Abdulkarim noted that villagers have since begun to return to Mafa, and no further incidents have been reported at the time of this publication.

This devastating attack serves as yet another reminder of the ongoing security challenges in Nigeria’s North-East region, where insurgency and terrorism continue to disrupt lives and communities.
