In a shocking revelation, records from Nigeria’s public payment portal Govspend have exposed questionable spending by the Nigerian Police Force (NPF).

According to the data, the police spent a staggering ₦22.282 million on just 85 cartons of Cream Crackers biscuits in 2023.

    Breakdown of the Biscuit Purchases

    • On October 26, 2023, ₦7.073 million was paid to Danlokey Systems Limited for 25 cartons of Cream Crackers biscuits.

    • On October 4, 2023, another ₦7.073 million was spent on 30 cartons of the same biscuits, again purchased from the same supplier.

    • Earlier, on August 30, 2023, ₦8.136 million was paid for 30 cartons.

Across these transactions, the average cost per carton worked out to an unbelievable ₦261,717.

    Toilet Roll Purchases Raise Eyebrows

This isn’t the first questionable expense recorded under the NPF. Documents further revealed that between April and July 2023, the police spent a total of ₦13.3 million on just 24 packs of Carla Rose toilet rolls.

    • On April 21, 2023, ₦6.558 million was paid to Waves Fulfillment Limited for 12 packs.

    • On July 27, 2023, another ₦6.8 million was paid to the same company for an additional 12 packs.

Each pack contained 48 rolls, meaning the police paid more than ₦550,000 per pack.

    Market Reality Check

A quick market survey by Jamflash shows that these same toilet rolls are far cheaper in open markets:

    • On Jumia, a pack of Carla Rose (48 rolls) sells for about ₦55,000.

    • On Konga, the same product goes for around ₦50,000.

At these rates, 24 packs should cost no more than ₦1.32 million—a fraction of what was actually paid.

    Public Outrage

These revelations raise strong concerns about inflated procurement costs, misuse of public funds, and lack of accountability within the Nigerian Police Force.

As Nigerians continue to face economic challenges, such extravagant spending on biscuits and toilet rolls has sparked outrage among citizens demanding transparency in government expenditure.
