The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Kano State has confirmed the arrest of six young men accused of vandalizing and stealing electricity equipment in different parts of the state.
According to the Corps, the suspects were apprehended at Hayin Da’e in Hotoro, Tarauni Local Government Area, after local vigilantes raised an alarm and tipped off security operatives.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by the Command’s spokesperson, SC Ibrahim Idris Abdullahi, the suspects were caught in possession of stolen transformer cables believed to have been removed under the cover of night.

Most of the suspects are residents of the affected areas.
Previous Crimes and Confessions
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects had been terrorizing residents of Hayin Da’e, Farawa Kwanar Yashi, and Hotoro Eastern Bypass through burglary, theft, and repeated vandalism of electricity installations.
The NSCDC further disclosed that the arrested men have already made confessional statements. Investigations are ongoing to track down more people believed to be connected to the crime.
Security Measures and Next Steps
The Corps assured residents that the matter will not stop at the arrest stage, noting that once investigations are concluded, the suspects will be charged to court.
Meanwhile, Kano State Commandant Shafi’u Abdulmumini has directed intensified surveillance and regular patrols across the state to curb the rising cases of vandalism and related crimes.
