Ogun Govt Slams Gbenga Daniel Over Road Project Claims, Calls Remarks Misleading

The Ogun State Government has strongly criticized Senator Gbenga Daniel for his recent comments against Governor Dapo Abiodun regarding the rehabilitation of the 260-meter Paddy Arikawe Oye-Igbimo Road in Sagamu.

In a statement released by the governor’s media aide, Kayode Akinmade, the government described Daniel’s remarks as “reckless and misleading,” accusing the former governor of seeking cheap popularity and deliberately twisting facts.

According to Akinmade, the contractor handling the road project had begun work without officially notifying the state authorities. He explained that the only directive from the government was for the contractor to regularize its operations and comply with standard procedures.

“Only someone bent on mischief would describe adherence to due process as obstruction. The contractor has already accepted the government’s recommendations, which makes Senator Daniel’s accusations even more misleading,” Akinmade said.

The governor’s aide further questioned why Senator Daniel appears to be the only federal lawmaker in Ogun State constantly at odds with the government over constituency projects. He noted that Daniel’s record as governor shows a history of undermining state institutions rather than strengthening them.

    He added:

“It is ironic that Senator Daniel, who ignored due process while in office, now pretends to champion accountability. A genuine leader would work within established procedures instead of attempting to impose unsafe engineering works on the people.”

Akinmade also recalled Daniel’s refusal to submit property documents during a verification exercise in Sagamu, saying such behavior reflects poorly on a former governor turned senator.

The aide emphasized that Daniel, who is currently facing suspension from his party’s state executive, has made it a habit to attack the government on various issues.

“Daniel complains about roads, but how many did he construct as governor?” Akinmade asked. “Meanwhile, Governor Abiodun’s administration has successfully built over 1,000 kilometers of roads across Ogun State.”

He concluded by assuring residents that the present administration will continue to prioritize due process, rule of law, and public safety, regardless of media attacks or political distractions.
