Osun APC Sets New Rules to Curb Infighting Ahead of 2026 Governorship Primary

The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced new disciplinary guidelines aimed at curbing internal disputes and safeguarding party unity ahead of its 2026 governorship primary election.

The decision was made during a crucial State Working Committee (SWC) meeting held on Thursday at the party’s secretariat in Osogbo, with the session chaired by Tajudeen Lawal, the state APC chairman.

According to the SWC, the growing trend of verbal attacks by supporters of various aspirants against fellow party members has become a major source of division within the party. Leaders described the behaviour as harmful to the APC’s cohesion and chances of victory in the coming election.

    Key Resolutions From the Meeting

    1. Ban on Party Executives as Coordinators
All party executive officers, including reinstated council chairmen and councillors, are prohibited from acting as coordinators for any governorship aspirant.

    2. Zero Tolerance for Abusive Language
Spokespersons, aspirants, and supporters are strictly warned against using insulting or derogatory remarks during campaigns. Any violations will attract sanctions based on the party’s constitution.

    3. No False Endorsements
Members are forbidden from using the names of respected party leaders or groups to endorse aspirants without proper approval. Offenders will face stiff penalties.

      1. Curbing Fake Financial Claims
Coordinators are barred from spreading unverified claims about financial backing from party leaders, as such rumours may cause distrust and division within the APC.

      2. Investigation of NGO-Managed Programme
The committee raised concerns about an ongoing initiative that seeks to generate 1,000 names from each ward. The chairman has been tasked to verify its authenticity in Abuja and ensure it aligns with party structures if legitimate.

      3. Boosting Voter Registration
The SWC urged party officers to intensify efforts in mobilising members for the Continuous Voters’ Registration exercise, noting that participation remains below expectations.

Focus on Unity Ahead of 2026

Speaking at the meeting, Osun APC Chairman Tajudeen Lawal reminded aspirants and their supporters that the ultimate goal is victory in the 2026 governorship election, not internal conflict.

      He emphasized:

“It is needless to turn fellow members of the same party into arch-enemies because of a primary election.”
