Osun Deputy Governor, Kola Adewusi, has called on politicians and youths to put aside political differences and embrace peace for the growth of Ile-Ife and Osun State.
He made this appeal on Saturday during the grand finale of the annual Olojo Cultural Festival in Ile-Ife. The festival climaxed with the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, adorning the sacred Are Crown, which is worn only once a year. The Ooni, accompanied by a massive crowd, journeyed from his Enuwa Palace to Oke Mogun, performing symbolic rites in remembrance of Oduduwa’s journey centuries ago.
Representing Governor Ademola Adeleke, Adewusi addressed dignitaries, cultural enthusiasts, and residents at the event. He urged political leaders to unite for the progress of Ile-Ife, warning that constant political conflicts could hinder the town’s development.
“Regardless of our political differences, we must work together for the growth of this community. Cooperation among leaders will bring peace and ensure the Ooni enjoys a prosperous reign,” he stated.
Adewusi also stressed that embracing the Omoluabi ethos—a Yoruba value system rooted in integrity and good character—should guide politics in the region. He appealed to residents and indigenes to leverage their political connections for community growth rather than division.
A Strong Message to the Youth
As Osun prepares for the 2026 gubernatorial election and the 2027 general elections, Adewusi particularly cautioned youths against being used as tools for violence or political thuggery.
“Our youths must resist being lured into violence. We have had enough conflicts in Ile-Ife and Osun State. This time, let peace prevail,” he warned.
Background Context
Recently, the Deputy Governor faced political tension when some chieftains of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ife Federal Constituency passed a vote of no confidence against him, accusing him of anti-party activities. However, Governor Adeleke quickly intervened, affirming his confidence in Adewusi and holding peace talks to resolve internal party disputes.
The Deputy Governor’s call for unity at the Olojo Festival, therefore, comes at a crucial time—emphasizing that peace, cooperation, and responsible leadership are the only pathways to lasting development in Ile-Ife and Osun State.
