The Niger State Police Command has announced the arrest of a suspected gunrunner found with locally manufactured firearms and live ammunition in Makera town.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, the arrest was made on Thursday, September 5, 2025, around 8:30 p.m. by a patrol team attached to Mashegu Division.
The suspect, identified as a native of Guiye-Doko village in Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State, was intercepted with:

Two locally fabricated guns

Six rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition
During interrogation, the suspect reportedly confessed that he had purchased the firearms in Soba village, Mashegu LGA, at ₦180,000 each, and bought the ammunition at ₦5,000 per round from an unidentified dealer.
Police say investigations are ongoing to track down the arms fabricator and other accomplices involved in the illegal trade.
Four Arrested for Transformer Vandalism in Edati LGA
In a separate operation, police operatives also apprehended four suspects accused of vandalizing a community transformer in Gbodoti village, Edati Local Government Area.
SP Abiodun explained that the arrests took place on September 3, around 8 a.m., after operatives from Enagi Division, working with community members, acted on surveillance and credible intelligence reports.
During interrogation, the suspects admitted to conspiring, vandalizing, and stealing electrical cables from Gbodoti and Guzzan villages.
They have since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Minna, for further investigation and prosecution.
