The head coach of Nigeria’s Super Eagles, Eric Chelle, has reassured fans that his squad will remain motivated and focused as they head into the decisive stages of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
This statement came shortly after the Super Eagles secured a 1-1 draw against South Africa on Tuesday night. The encounter saw an early setback for Nigeria when William Troost-Ekong’s own goal handed Bafana Bafana the lead. However, Calvin Bassey quickly restored parity with a powerful header before half-time.
Although the result leaves Nigeria with no margin for error, Chelle insists his players are determined to fight until the end.
“My players are professionals, and I know they will still want to win the remaining two games,” Chelle told the media.
“A lot can happen over the next month. But before that, we must analyse our performance tonight, which won’t be easy.”
With two crucial fixtures left—against Lesotho and Benin Republic in October—the Super Eagles will need maximum points to keep their World Cup qualification hopes alive.
As the countdown continues, Nigerian fans will be hoping the team can rise to the occasion and secure a spot on football’s biggest stage in 2026.
