A devastating accident has shaken the Tumu Market community in Akko Local Government Area of Gombe State, as a woman lost her life in a rice milling machine mishap.

The victim, identified as 32-year-old Hauwa’u Abubakar, tragically passed away on Monday after her flowing clothes got entangled in the machine while it was in motion. The accident caused a severe neck injury, and despite being rushed to the Cottage Hospital, doctors confirmed she had died on arrival.

Confirming the incident, the Gombe State Police Command expressed deep sympathy, describing the event as a very unfortunate tragedy. Her remains were later released to her family for burial in accordance with Islamic rites.

Authorities have since issued a strong safety warning to both operators and community members. The police advised that:

    • People should avoid standing too close to running milling or grinding machines.

    • Flowing clothes, scarves, or loose fabric should never be worn near such machines.

    • Operators are encouraged to place protective covers on their machines.

    • Children should be kept far away from these machines at all times.

Residents are also urged to promptly report unsafe use of milling machines in their communities to prevent similar heartbreaking incidents.

This sad occurrence serves as a reminder that safety precautions around heavy machines must never be ignored.
