The Yobe State Police Command has reported the arrest of a 22-year-old man accused of sexually assaulting an 11-year-old girl. The suspect was apprehended by officers from the Fika Divisional Headquarters following a distress call from the girl’s guardian.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, the suspect, Ishiaku Bukar, allegedly lured the young girl to his farm under the guise of offering help, promising a reward, but instead took advantage of her vulnerability.
The arrest took place on September 13, 2025, around 7:00 AM in Maiduwa Village, Fika Local Government Area. During questioning, the suspect reportedly confessed to the crime. Authorities have begun medical evaluation and treatment for the young survivor, while the investigation continues.
The Police Command expressed deep concern over the rising cases of harassment and abuse targeting women and children employed as farm laborers. They warned that perpetrators of such crimes will face strict legal consequences.
Reacting to the incident, the State Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Ado, urged the public to stay vigilant and report any suspicious individuals who might exploit farming activities to harm women and children.
He emphasized: “Say no to rape, protect women and children.”
